Exposure to violent video games at a young age

Video games like Call of Duty or Battleship are popular among many ages of gamers. Even though, they are just a game, they are exposing people to violence. I have noticed that my 9 year old step-brother talks about shooting people in Call of Duty like it is no big deal. As I watched him play one day, I noticed how violent and graphic it was. Using my sociological imagination, I think that games like call of duty are desensitizing people (especially when played at a young age) from violence. This desensitization causes people to disregard violent crimes and just shrug it off. Desensitization from violent games making violence seem like a normal thing could cause them to not feel so strongly about trying to stop them(like the bystander effect). Violent video games make violence seem like it is just a normal aspect of society and that it is no big deal.
