When I was little, I remember my parents making me go to
Cotillion, and they taught the girls how to sit “properly.” I couldn’t help but
think it was so ridiculous, but as I got older I realized that the gender roles
that society gives males and females. Gender roles even go as far as to say how males and females were supposed
to sit. I’ve noticed the difference in
how men and women sit in church, in class, and at restaurants, and it is always
the same. In the picture above you can
see that women are supposed to sit with their hands in their laps, legs/ankles
crossed, and with good posture. In contrast, the rules for how males sit aren’t
as strict. Males can sit slouched with their legs open and nobody thinks
anything of it, but if a woman sits like that then it is isn’t “lady-like.”
