Knock Knock, Who's there?
If you were to assume, who do you think were the residents of these rooms? The common perspective most of us would presume living in the American Culture we are in is that the top picture has female residents and the bottom one male residents, and you would be correct. The stereotypical Gender Roles play an important factor in this. The girl's door is full of life, lots of colors and very vibrant, obviously time was put in to make it this way. While the boy's door is there just like the day it was put in, bland and nothing has changed. Boys are not suppose to decorate and show off something as simple as their door. Just like themselves, everything you need to know is on the inside, its just getting inside is what the problem is. Our culture has made it to where we must "act like a man" that means no crying, no emotion, and certainly nothing displayed on your door to signify either of these. The girl's door is just what you would expect though, some welcoming and open to others, with everything you need to know on the first impression. Usually the door is probably even open, to show that they are always open. In American culture we have forgotten the second part of the joke after we knock, we assume we know who is there. Men and woman show their emotions in the way society has dictated them too, one with the door always open, and one with it always locked.
