Being a worker in the food industry I know how a server should act to a table, even if they do not think that they will tip well. It is usually always the same process as to if they want to serve that table, or if they want to give it to another server. If it is a girl server, they tend to choose tables with more guys at it because they will tip better. sadly this is how it works in most cases, people of the opposite sex tips better because of what I think is attraction. Because of different genders, the attraction between them makes them tip more, or no attraction ends up making them tip less. than deserved.
