Papel or Plastic?

(Produce from Latin Market)
I purposely grouped the produce opposite of the store they are sold from to show that there is hardly a difference in the quality of product, and yet more people tend to shop at Walmart than at the "Mexican Store". Using my sociological imagination, the reason people choose the "White  Store" over the Latino Market is due to individual discrimination of the customers.
To begin with, given the name " Mexican Store" not only sounds off putting, but it also conjures up stereotypes we associate with Mexicans, such as poor hygiene and lack of proper English. This word association is what mostly deters potential customers. When was the last time you heard someone say," Hey, I'm going to the Latino Market to pick up groceries. Do you need anything?" This pattern of discrimination leaves a minority worker struggling to keep their business afloat. However, at White-Mart, we associate it with better quality produce, better maintenance, and best of all, English. It is for these reasons people tend to swarm Walmart rather than tread into the Mexican store. It is for these reasons people unknowingly discriminate against an honest working minority class.
- On a different note, this is not meant to offend any race. I use "White" and "Mexican" store to state my point on how people associate different buildings with a race.
- AND on a different note, papel in the title is Spanish for paper.
