Racism's Effects on Both Groups
I grew up in the town of Harrison Arkansas. Harrison has a primarily white population so I never had many interactions with people of a different ethnicity. When I became a student at Arkansas Tech I began to meet many new people with many different ethnicities. As I began meeting people of black ethnicity when I would introduce myself and tell them I was from Harrison, they would become suspicious of me and almost want to leave. One guy replied to me,"Oh really, I don't go to Harrison. I stay away from there." This happened to me 3 or 4 times. After this billboard went up I realized why I was getting such a reaction.
I am by no means racist so when I heard that people were scared to come to my town I became embarrassed because I didn't want people to think that I was racist. This comes to show that racism not only effects the people being discriminated, but also has negative affects on the people belonging to the group who are doing the discriminating. Some people in a group may not have the same beliefs as the group they belong too. Therefore, what a few members of the group do effects the group as a whole. These people who are so proud of their race and have the audacity to bash others who they deem lower then them are also hurting their own. Therefore, racism is bad for everybody involved and should stop.
